Medical Assistant - Per Diem

Eastern Plumas Health Care is a small, non-profit, critical access hospital district, providing comprehensive medical services to Plumas County since 1971. We operate a 9 bed acute care hospital at our main Portola campus, which includes a 24 hour, physician staffed, emergency room and ambulance service. In addition, four primary care medical clinics and a dental clinic offer residents a full spectrum of health care services in the Graeagle, Loyalton, and Portola communities. There are also hospital-based Skilled Nursing Facilities in Portola and Loyalton. The hospital district serves over 10,000 permanent residents living in small communities scattered throughout Plumas and Sierra Counties. During the peak summer vacation months, that population almost doubles. 

We also provide in-patient and out-patient surgery, diagnostic imaging, dietary, and respiratory services, hospice care, and visiting specialists.

We currently have one per diem, non-benefited opening for a Medical Assistant to work in our Portola Outpatient Clinic.  Pay grade 33P or 36P with national MA certification.  Applicants may be Certified or Non-certified Medical Assistants.  Current CPR certification required.  Hours will be on average, less that 30 hour per week.  The Medical Assistant performs clinical and clerical duties related to the provision of patient care.  Must be able to work within established time frames with attention to detail and accuracy.  Must have computer skills including patient scheduling software and EHR required computer training.  Some commuting to satellite clinics will be required.  

 Duties will include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment, and performs patient care services that support the physician / provider's practice under the clinical supervision of the Physician, Licensed Vocational, Registered Nurse, and Nurse Practitioner.  
  • Assisting in prepping patients for examinations or procedures.
  • Assisting with procedures.
  • Relaying instructions from the physician to a patient or authorized person, and collecting patient data.
  • Documenting patient concerns, patient messages, and care provided to the patient in the patient’s medical record for the physician's review.
  • Administrating medications specifically directed by the physician and performing accurate vital sign measurements and documentation.
